William Richard (Sr.) Maurizio

William Richard Maurizio, Sr., aged 85, passed away on July 5, 2024, at St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was born on June 25, 1939, in Pittsburgh, to Pasquale (Patsy) Maurizio and Fenizio (Fannie) Cardillo Maurizio.  He was preceded in death by his father in 1965, his mother in 2003, his brother, Michael, in 1993, and his brother, Robert, in 2019.  

He attended Westinghouse High School and was a beloved member of the “Larimer Avenue Gang.”  He married Carol Ann Caruso on September 9, 1961, at Corpus Christi Church in Pittsburgh.  Bill and Carol would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in the fall.  He worked for Rubber Products for many years and then retired from RUD Chain as a sales representative.  He retired for a second time in October of 2023 from Capco Parking Corporation with many years of dedicated service.  He loved to be behind his grill and smoker cooking for his family and friends and he also enjoyed making his own “moonshine” and wine.  To know Bill was to love him as he was truly one of a kind and the life of any party.  

Bill leaves behind his loving family to keep his memory alive in their hearts.  He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, William, Jr. (Debra) Maurizio and Gino (Lu Ann) Maurizio; and his grandchildren, Danielle (Bobby) Starkowicz, Nina (Mike Yannone) Maurizio, Leah Maurizio, Nico Maurizio, and Gabriella (Gabriel) Mezzaluna; and his great-grandchildren, Santino and Carmine Starcowicz; his sister-in-law, Louisa LaMonica, as well as nieces and nephews.  He became a dog lover in recent years and leaves behind his granddogs Glizzy, Fannie, and his beloved “Poochie,” Peter Pan.  

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 26 at 10 AM at St. Matthew Parish - St. Bonaventure Church, 2001 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Arrangements by Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
