Walter Houy Obituary

      On Sat. July 16, 2022 Walter Peter (Butch, Wild Dog, Daddio) Houy age 78 peacefully departed this earth, from his son’s home in Kennedy.    He was father to Rebecca (Ray) Lohr of Missouri, Boyd (Traci) Houy of Kennedy, Shawn Houy of Baden, and Shay (Chris) Kochin of Carnegie, PA.  He had 8 wonderful grandchildren: William and Nichole Houy, Tyler Houy, the late Dakota Houy, Kate Houy, Joe Kochin, Bailey Kochin and Evan Houy and one great grandchild, Evelyn Houy.  

He was born May 2, 1944 to the late Eleanor and Peter Houy, younger brother to Cleone (Ed) Massella, Penny (Larry) Cross, Patricia (Dave) McCartney, Janet (Russell) Keener and older brother to  Paul (Margie) Houy.   On May 1, 1965 Walter was married to Patricia George Houy.   They met at the Carnegie United Methodist Church and continued to attend and raise their family there.  

Butch was preceded in death by many family members including his wife of 50 plus years, Patty and his beloved grandson, Dakota.  He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great granddaughter, Evelyn, sister Janet Keener, brother in law, Dave McCartney, sister in law, Margie Houy, and many nieces and nephews and many dear friends who became family.   

Butch  retired from United States Steel. He then attended PIA and eventually retired from United Airlines.  He also worked as a delivery man for Big Guys Pizza and Performance Auto Parts.  He was a member and former commander of Old Westmoreland Rifles.  He was a private in the Independent Battalion of Westmoreland County Provincials.  He was a member of Cruisin Classics and Pittsburgh cars and enjoyed showing off his 1970 Chevy Pick-up truck and 1970 Chevy Panel truck.   He loved Christmas and spent weeks setting up trees and decorations throughout his house in preparation for a family Christmas eve party.  He also loved Halloween and helping his son Shawn decorate and host his Halloween parties.   He lived his life with fun, love, laughter and died without regrets.  

A celebration of life will be held Tues. July 19, 2022 at Carnegie United Methodist Church 415 Washington Ave. Carnegie, PA 15106 from 1:00pm-7:00pm with a prayer service at 6:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Carnegie UMC Memorial Fund.
