Virginia Alice (McCoy) Jessop

Virginia Alice Jessop (McCoy), 80, of Pittsburgh PA, passed away on October 24, 2023.  

Virginia was a loving wife and mother to many.  She was born on August 5, 1943, to Robert and Estella McCoy in Pittsburgh. After she graduated from South Hills High School in 1961, she went on to work at West Penn Hospital as an OB Tech assisting with delivering and caring for babies.  

Later Virginia studied nursing at Connelley Vocational and received a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  As an LPN, Virginia provided care in various roles, the most significant of which was hospice care. Her loving and caring demeanor provided comfort for many as they neared their end.

In 1956, Virginia met Charles (Chuck) Edward Jessop at a Brookline Recreation Center dance. Virginia and Chuck fell in love, were married on August 18, 1962, and went on to have three children, Deborah Lynn (Malush), Charles Edward (Jr), and Timothy Howard.

In 2005, Virginia retired from nursing and spent her time caring for her family, gardening, camping, and supporting her Pittsburgh Pirates.

Virginia was predeceased by her father Robert, mother Estella, and brother Robert.  Virginia is survived by her loving husband Charles; children, Debbie (Tom), Charles (Helen), & Timothy; sisters Suzanne (Henry) & Jane (John); brother Howard (Kathy); 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Family and friends shall be received Friday, October 27, 2023 from 2-6pm at Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc., 600 Dunster St., Pgh., PA. 15226. Funeral Mass Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00am in St. Pius X Church of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 3040 Pioneer Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15226.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital, an organization felt strongly about. Make a donation to cure childhood cancer - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org)
