Thomas Bishop Obituary

Thomas Patrick “Tom” Bishop age 71, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Tom was born April 29, 1950 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late William Raymond Sr. and Alberta Bernadette Bishop.  He is survived by his long-time best friend Dan Kirkwood, brothers:  George Henry, the late William Raymond Jr., Daniel Francis (Kathy), John Paul, James Joseph (Joanie), Robert Michael (Nancy), and his sisters: Maryann Aarseth and Judith Ann Bishop, along with many nieces and nephews.  Tom will also be sorely missed by his family and numerous friends.

Tom served in the United States Navy for six years and was stationed on Mid-Way Island from 1977-1978, then served on the USS William H. Standley from 1978-1980 and completed his career in Pittsburgh at the Personnel Support Activity Detachment (PSD) from 1980-1983.  After serving in the military, he worked for the United State Postal Service until he retired in 2006 from the Bethel Park Post Office.

Tom enjoyed shooting the breeze with his friends on Warrington Avenue and at Saint Justin Plaza or “SJP” as Tom put it.  He was lovingly referred as “the cat”, because once you feed a cat, they are yours for life, and that’s what Tom was, a true friend for life to all he met.  One often saw Tom, displaying his variety of flags, which you could see when you drive down Warrington Avenue, drinking a cup of hot tea, and forever searching for a deal at the Salvation (Sally’s) Army.  Tom was one of a kind and will be remembered as a happy soul, quick witted with a kind heart. He will be forever missed by all.

Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, May 6, 2021 for viewing from 4 to 8 pm at Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc., 600 Dunster Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15226.
