Michelle "Shelly" McGann

In loving memory of Michelle "Shelly" McGann (64), a true force of nature who brightened the lives of all who knew her. Born on July 6, 1959, she departed this world suddenly on August 2nd, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Throughout the past few weeks, she and her family fought tirelessly to have the chance to say goodbye, and with the direction from the brilliant doctors and nurses at Shadyside Hospital and Family Hospice she was able to spend her last days surrounded by the love of everyone she cherished. 

Michelle was a vibrant, outspoken, and energetic woman, who simply lit up any room she entered. With a heart full of loyalty and a fighter's spirit, she brought fun, friendship, and celebration to everyone she met. In true "yinzer" fashion, she made conversation with anyone who crossed her path, making them feel special and valued. 

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, she proudly embraced her roots and was a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan. She never missed a Penguins or Steelers game, and her passion for the teams was infectious. 

As a housekeeper, Michelle considered her clients an extension of her family, dedicating herself to their care and well-being with genuine love and compassion. 

Michelle’s true pride and joy were her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her loving mother Kathleen McGann (Mechas), Father James McGann, sisters Colleen and Shannon, two children Nicole McGann and Michael Fenton, and her son-in-law Justin Jankovitz. Her three beloved grandchildren, Oliver Jankovitz, Evelyn Jankovitz, and Sofia Jankovitz, aged 5 and 2-year-old twins, were her "Happy place," filling her heart with boundless happiness. 

A devoted dog lover, Shelly leaves behind her cherished fur babies, Baby and Oscar, who provided her with unconditional love and companionship. 

We invite friends and family to join us in a memorial to celebrate Michelle’s life on Thursday, August 10th, from 6-8 pm at Ball Funeral Chapel, located at 600 Dunster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15226. 

In honor of her love for Pittsburgh sports, we encourage attendees to wear black and gold. 

On Saturday, August 12th, we will have a private Catholic burial for family members at Mt Olivet Cemetery 2001 Swallow Hill Rd.
