Mary (Mae) Frances Hicks, 86, was born in Clio Alabama then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was one of ten children born to the late Harvey Hicks Sr and Carrie Will Burkes Hicks. Mary departed this life peacefully at home on October 15, 2023. Especially devoted to her family and friends, she was a presence and an influence that will not soon or easily be forgotten. Upon graduating in 1956 from Fifth Avenue High School, she entered the workforce, and not long after began raising a family. Mary's work life included Pittsburgh's Veteran Hospital dietary department, Mellon Bank, CMU and lastly as a school bus driver for the Pittsburgh Public School system. Mary was a member of Ethnan Temple SDA Church and was a choir member of the Gospel Chorus. Mary also enjoyed making ceramics, bowling and playing Pinochle, spades, bid whist and canasta with family and friends. She could be found promoting laughter while sharing funny memories and her unique take on life. Although very loving and kindhearted, she also was fiery and very direct in her opinions. She was loved, is survived, and will be sorely missed by her five children; (Son) Karey, (Daughter) Carrie, (Daughter) Donna, (Daughter) Evelyn, (Son) John; her three remaining siblings; (Brother) Jack, (Sister) Mabel, (Sister) Carolyn; her 15 grandchildren; David, Karen, Kristopher, Julian, Amanda, Jerame, Brande, Alvin; Cassandra, Cynthia, John, Alona, Victor, Katie, Chloe; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other family, and friends.
Mary wished to be cremated. Her family will have a private memorial on November 4th. Arrangements by Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
