Larry Mitchell Lucas

Larry Mitchell Lucas, Sr., affectionately known as “Worm” or “Tree Top Tall Worm,” passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 65 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born on June 12, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York, Larry was the son of the late Barbara Ann Lucas and Gene Lucas. He relocated to Pittsburgh in 2018, where he continued to build meaningful connections.
Larry was well known for his lively spirit and ability to bring people together. He filled rooms with laughter and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether on or off the court, he had a competitive edge and a personality that people gravitated toward.
A talented basketball player, Larry earned over 300 gold trophies throughout his life. He played during his time at Wingate High School and many days at Lincoln Terrace Park, where he also mentored neighborhood youth. He took pride in guiding others—teaching basketball, helping train dogs, and offering honest advice, often with his signature sense of style.
He attended P.S. 189, Winthrop Junior High School, and Wingate High School in Brooklyn. He later earned his GED and attended culinary school. Larry worked in pest control in his early years and more recently in food preparation at a restaurant in Pittsburgh. Cooking and basketball were among his greatest passions.
