Swetz, John Joseph Jr.
John Joseph Swetz Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Dormont, PA on November 29, 2024. He was born on February 4, 1938, in Neville Island, PA.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph and Mary D. (Nester) Swetz of Neville Island, PA. He is survived by his sister, Mary Sullivan and daughter Christine Swetz (Mike Gallagher).
John graduated from Neville Island High School in 1956. He demonstrated his athletic talent playing football (halfback & linebacker positions) and baseball in high school. He was captain of his football team & class president. John attended college for two years at Ohio University where he earned a partial football scholarship. He graduated with a Business degree from Pitt University.
John worked in restaurant management, real estate, telemarketing and most recently as a security guard prior to his retirement. He enjoyed many sports, fishing with his daughter, dancing and playing volleyball in his mid-years.
A heartfelt and sincere appreciation is extended to LIFE Pittsburgh. Over the course of the last 11+ years, John’s healthcare needs were assisted by LIFE Pittsburgh allowing him to continue living independently in his Dormont apartment. The LIFE Pittsburgh care team was a second family to John and improved his quality of life dramatically. Several very special individuals are deserving of recognition for their kindness, dedication & selfless efforts over the many years they were a part of John’s life. THANK YOU Melissa, Karen, Kathleen, Kristen, Sarah, Shelly, Karen “Tua”, Jayme, Julie, Liz, Michelle, Dr. Guilinger, Charlice, Tamorra, Diana, Chelsea, Erica, April, Nyesha, Alicia & all of the many other aides, nurses, therapists & doctors who have been a part of John’s care.
Rest in peace Daddy-O…. you are loved and will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial shall be Celebrated on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10:00am in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 1304 4th Ave., Coraopolis, PA 15108. EVERYONE MEET AT CHURCH. Arrangements entrusted to Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
