Jocelyn Kratzert, 31, passed away from an unexpected accident in her home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024
Jocelyn is survived by her parents, John and Nancy (Wilson) Kratzert; her sister, Amanda; her brother-in-law, Eric Rohrback; and her nephew, Archer. She is also survived by her fur family: Kirby, Earl Grey, and Chamomile. She leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding her in death were Jocelyn’s paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, and her beloved rabbits, Arthur and Frankie.
Jocelyn received her BA in Sociology at Connecticut College in 2015 and her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. She specialized in medical social work and for the past 6 years, was a palliative care social worker at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Beloved by all her patients and the staff of the hospital, from the chief medical officer to security to housekeeping and everyone in-between, Jocelyn jokingly referred to herself as the “mayor of West Penn”. She made it a point to learn everyone’s names and to greet each with a smile and a kind word. She loved her patients, advocating for them and their families and often being their voice when they had none.
Jocelyn was incredibly artistic and loved sharing her art with others. Her ability to express herself through her paintings and above all, her dance, will be cherished memories. Jocelyn was exceptionally giving to everyone she encountered. Her dry sense of humor brought a smile and an occasional eye-roll from friends and family. Seven years of living with her sister and brother-in-law made her into a begrudging Buffalo Bills fan, always delighted that she and Josh Allen shared a birthday. Her favorite Saturday night activity was snuggling with her dog, watching B-rated horror movies.
Jocelyn with always be remembered as a bright light in the lives of all those fortunate enough to have known her.
