Janyth Jay Obituary

Janyth Lee (Joler) Jay of Harmony, PA was welcomed home into eternal rest on October 8, 2025. Jan was born on December 25, 1944 and raised in Concordia, Kansas with her brothers Ron, who preceded her in death, and Jeff, who survives.

A kind and generous sister, wife, and mother, Jan’s enduring passions in life were art and her family. She graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute and experimented with many different types of media in her work. Her paintings reflect a deep inner spirituality and evoke the beauty of the natural world. She especially enjoyed plein air painting — painting outdoors in direct contact with the elements. Jan’s artwork has been exhibited at numerous venues including the Hoyt Art Institute, Erie Museum, Yeovil College in Somerset, England, and most recently with the Cranberry Artists Network. Jan persevered through many challenges during her life, yet she continued to explore new subjects, working and painting until her very last day.

Jan’s life and works were enriched by her experiences traveling throughout the United States and living in Crewkerne, England for a year. She shared her passion for art and travel by helping chaperone several student trips to Europe. Her creativity was also influenced by listening to and moving to music. Playing her hand pan drums and Native American flutes was a balm and a joy to Jan.

Jan is survived by her loving husband Paul, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Her sons and daughter, Thomas (Sharon) Jay, David (Susan) Jay, and Andrea (Kraig) Wolf, were her heart and greatest joy. Her memory will be cherished by her six grandchildren – Kane Jay, Ashlyn Jay, Kira (Xander) Sexton, Jasmine Jay, Cassidy (Lara) Slivensky-Graf, and Evan (Aleesha Gaiser) Jay. Her nieces, nephews, and extended family will remember her fondly.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Saint Thomas Anglican Church, 4106 St. Thomas Drive, Gibsonia, PA on Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m.
