His larger-than-life personality is a common thread shared by so many who loved our son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and fiancé, James Cornell Norman. Our fun-loving Cornell—affectionately known as “Lo”—passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on the afternoon of Saturday, December 20, 2025.
James Cornell Norman was born on March 31, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Louise and Foriest Norman. He was the third of four children. Cornell attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and completed his education at Westinghouse High School, graduating in 1964. Soon after graduation, he met and married Larraine Johnson. From that union, two children were born: Denise Norman and Carmell Norman. Although Cornell and Larraine later divorced, Cornell was also blessed with two additional children, David White and Curtis Norman Fuqua. At the time of his passing, Cornell was joyfully engaged to Anita Williams.
As a young man, Cornell was a dedicated and hardworking provider. His employment included positions at U.S. Steel in Homestead, Volkswagen Automotive in New Stanton, UPS Delivery System, and several custodial roles throughout Allegheny County.
When we reminisce about the times shared with Cornell, our smiles inevitably turn into laughter. He lived his life bringing joy to others, always ready with candid and colorful words that reflected his authentic spirit. If you wanted the truth—or sometimes even if you didn’t—Cornell gave it freely. His honesty and humor were among his most defining qualities, and people were instantly drawn to him. Everyone who encountered Cornell felt his warmth, and those qualities created lasting connections throughout his life.
We now live with an undeniable emptiness as we mourn the loss of our brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and fiancé. We grieve deeply, having been blessed to experience his presence, even though his time on earth felt far too short. Cornell lived with joy, humor, and passion, which he generously shared with all who knew him.
May God continue to rest His grace upon our beloved Cornell. We love you, and we will forever miss your love, your kind spirit, your humor, and your candidness. Rest in peace, kind, loving, and joy-filled Cornell.
