George "Geo" Maedinger Jr. Obituary

George "Geo" C. Maedinger, Jr.

11/21/1965 - 1/22/2025

Beloved son of the late George Maedinger, Sr. and Helen (Robert "Bob") Nix, loving brother of Susan (Mark) Burke, Michelle Maedinger and Diane (Rick Harvanek) Maedinger. Proud uncle of Alexandra Burke and Owen Burke. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Geo enlisted in the Army in 1983 and his service took him to many places, including Germany, Panama, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait (Operation Desert Storm/Persian Gulf War) and Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom). After transferring to the Army Reserves, Geo served as Sergeant with the 307th Military Police Company in New Kensington, PA but was called back to active duty after 9/11. After serving his country for 20 years, Geo retired from the Army in 2003. Geo worked in security for the U.S. Marshals Service at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Downtown Pittsburgh for over 30 years. It was a job he absolutely loved until his retirement in 2019.

Geo will be remembered by his sarcastic dry wit, but also by his kindness; you could always count on him to buy you a Budweiser and share a laugh. Geo enjoyed all things Pittsburgh sports, especially the Penguins, and he was a season ticket holder for many years. In his younger years, Geo was an avid sports statistician and could brilliantly predict what new players would bring to our teams, along with knowing all their stats. Geo enjoyed darts and bowling and would often encourage hesitant bowlers to “put some ass into it.” There was nobody who could complete a New York Times Crossword, in pen, like Geo could. In retirement, Geo enjoyed his weekly chiropractic adjustments, dinners at Primanti Brothers, and friendships formed at the Brentwood VFW Post 1810. Geo’s final act of kindness was giving the gift of life through organ donation.

His family invites you to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ball Funeral Chapel, located at 600 Dunster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15226. Geo will be laid to rest with full military honors in a ceremony to be held later this spring. To honor Geo’s memory, please consider registering to become an organ and tissue donor at donatelifepa.org.
