George Hoover Erdner, 72, of Finleyville, died Sunday, April 23, 2024, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and George S. Erdner of Peters Township. He leaves behind his loving wife, Jeanne. He was a loving father to daughters, Victoria Nemec (Bryan), and Jeannine Rust; and son, Edward Rust; grandfather to Brooklyn Nemec, Adaline Nemec and Jacob Rust; great- grandfather to Emaleigh and Hannah Rust; brother to Sherida-Jayne Glover (Geoffrey), Bradley K. Erdner, Janet Gilleland (David). George was a graduate of Peters Township High School, Class of 1969. His career took many exciting paths, from manufacturing at Mesta Machine Works, to sales and marketing at Black Box Inc. and beyond. He was a writer, a musician and served as a lay minister for many years. He loved being with his family, playing in a band, singing karaoke and cooking. His barbecue was the stuff of legend. He lived in the Atlanta area for a while and became a sought after character actor, appearing in many commercials and short films. He got a kick out of being mistaken for a certain gentleman from the North Pole by star- struck children. George served as a committeeman in his District. Funeral plans are private.
