Gendie Miller Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gendie Nichole Haverstein Miller, a woman whose love and light touched everyone who had the joy of knowing her. Gendie left this world in the most fitting way — doing what she loved most: cheering on her daughter, Marlee, as she chased her dreams on the softball field.

A proud 1994 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, Gendie was a standout athlete, excelling on the basketball court as a four-year varsity starter. Her fierce determination and talent led her to surpass 1,000 career points — an achievement that earned her a place in the Tyrone High School Hall of Fame. She continued her passion for the sport at Juniata College, where she played for four more years and earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Throughout her youth and early adulthood, Gendie worked at her family’s beloved restaurant, East End, where she was a familiar face to many in the Tyrone community. Her work ethic, warm smile, and natural ability to connect with others made her a bright presence in the restaurant and beyond.

Gendie was the heart of her family. A devoted and loving mother, she poured every ounce of her energy, passion, and strength into supporting Marlee in every way imaginable. Her pride in Marlee’s accomplishments was unmatched, and she was always the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines — not just in volume, but in spirit. Watching Marlee play wasn’t just a pastime; it was Gendie’s purpose, her joy, and her proudest role.

As a wife to William Miller, Gendie shared a life filled with laughter, partnership, and unwavering love. She was the daughter of Judy and Robert Haverstein, sister to Tobie Bickle, sister-in-law to Tobie’s husband Keith, and aunt to their son, Brandon. She was also a beloved daughter-in-law to Frank and Patty Miller, and the cherished granddaughter of the late Louise Sweitzer. Gendie was a loyal friend to many — someone who made everyone feel like family, whether you’d known her for five minutes or five decades.

Her heart also extended to her animals, especially her Shih Tzu, Marshall, who brought her immense comfort and joy.

Gendie’s strength, kindness, and fierce dedication to those she loved leave behind a legacy that will continue to shine through all who knew her. She was a light in this world — selfless, strong, and full of heart.

Her absence leaves a hole that can never be filled, but her spirit lives on through her family, especially Marlee, who carries forward her mother’s fierce love and unwavering support in everything she does.

A celebration of Gendie’s life will be held on Sunday, August 10th at 1:00 PM at 311 Baptist Church Rd, Mill Run, PA 15464.

All are welcome to join in honoring her memory. Food and fellowship will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made toward Marlee’s college education. Contributions may be made by check to CollegeAmerica and mailed to:
