Eugene Joseph Gladish

Eugene Joseph Gladish, 94 of North Versailles, passed away peacefully on June 5 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born into a generation defined by hard work, service, and dedication, Eugene proudly served his country during the Korean War and spent a total of ten years in the United States Army. His military service reflected the values that guided his life: honor, responsibility, and commitment to others.

Eugene shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joanne (Theys) Gladish. Together they built a life centered on family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his children and stepchildren, Deborah, Joseph, Martin, Eugenia (Bender), Michael, Donald, Douglas Ireland, Pamella Clingensmith, Steven Ireland, and Christopher; and more than twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a source of great pride and joy throughout his life.  He was preceded in death by his father, Marion, and his mother Helen (Kantoris).

Eugene enjoyed working with his hands and was happiest when building or fixing things. He loved challenging himself with crossword puzzles and treasured the time spent at his hunting camp. There, he shared countless memorable days with his brother Al, his sons, and his dear friend Ted Williams.  Those moments of fellowship, storytelling, and laughter became some of his most cherished memories.

Known for his wisdom, practical nature, and generous spirit, Eugene never hesitated to share his knowledge with family and friends. He loved deeply and gave freely of his time. His influence will continue to be felt through the many lives he touched and the values he instilled in those he loved.

Eugene was fond of saying, “I’d rather have it than not need it than need it and not have it.” That simple phrase captured the preparedness, thoughtfulness, and common sense that defined his character.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend. While his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in a life well lived and in the countless memories he leaves behind.

Eugene's legacy of love, service, wisdom, and devotion to family will live on for generations.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who offered Eugene friendship, companionship, and kindness throughout his long and meaningful life. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
