Edward E. Werley, age 94, passed away on June 18, 2024 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Ed was born in Meadville PA on 11/15/1929, son of Mnetha & Henry Werley. He attended Allegheny College for his undergraduate degree, and earned a Masters of Landscape Architecture at the University of Michigan. Ed served in the Air Force from 1952-1956 as a navigator, achieving the rank of Captain. He completed active duty assignments in Japan and Korea, with extensive flying throughout Southeast Asia. He also completed Active Reserve assignments with Youngstown OH and Clinton County OH Air Force Bases.
Ed married Carolyn Upstill on July 16, 1955 in Marietta, OH and together they raised their four sons: John, G. Scotland, Michael and David.
Ed pursued his career in Landscape Architecture, first with the firm Simons & Simons in Pittsburgh, and then launching his own practice in 1975 as Werley Associates, retiring in 2004.
Ed introduced his family to sailing, and was a member of Pymatuning Yacht Club for fifty-one years, serving in many capacities including Commodore and Grounds Chairman.
Ed is preceded in death by his two sisters Noreen Stein and Marilyn Shannon, as well as granddaughter Sarah Beth Werley. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Carolyn Upstill Werley; sons John (Bertie) Werley, G. Scotland (Karen) Werley, Michael (Lynn) Werley, David (Jonette) Werley; grandchildren Ben, Elizabeth (Burba), Tim, Alexandra (Rodriguez), Kaitlyn (Werley-Mitchell), Matthew, Sam, Emma, A.C. Dilliott; great grandchildren Lily Rodriguez, Amelia and Isaac Burba, Calvin and Charlie Dilliott.
Memorial services will be held at a later time. Ed asked that in lieu of flowers, you contribute to a charity of your choice or to the Pymatuning Yacht Club Memorial Fund.
