Edward Gamble Sr. Obituary

Edward Andrew Gamble, Sr. died April 8, 2025, in Sewickley, PA. He was born on January 11, 1934, in New Hamburg, PA, to Ralph and Sylvania Gamble. He is survived by children Susan Knapp (Howard), E. Andrew Gamble, Jr. (Mimi), Ralph Barrett Gamble, and Joanna Hild Bentz (David), and grandchildren, Jack and Sam Middleton and Alice, Grace, and Joe Gamble. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, beloved brother and best friend Charles, Ann Hansen Knepp, mother of his children, and Jonathan Conley Hild, son of former wife Barbara Hild of Pulaski, PA.

Edward was a hard-working and accomplished man. In high school, he won a national FFA title and was part of the state championship basketball team. He attended Thiel College, where he played baseball and basketball and sang in the choir. He graduated from UCLA and Georgetown Law Center while serving his country in the US Army reserves, having been called to active duty twice. He began his legal career in San Francisco, where he learned that his job was to find out what the client wanted to do and then figure out a way to make it legal. In 1967 he founded a practice in New Castle, PA. He always enjoyed the law. During that time, he also farmed 300 acres of various field crops and livestock in New Wilmington, PA. He later became President of Young Galvanizing, Inc., in Pulaski, PA.

He was gifted in animal husbandry, starting as a teenager with dairy cattle, and continuing throughout his life first with Morgan horses and then Thoroughbreds. Although his Warrenton, VA-based racehorse program was small, it was successful, producing many race winners including a Breeder’s Cup place winner.

Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal in New Castle, 212 N Mill St, New Castle, PA 16101 at 1:00 PM on Saturday May 10, 2025. Interment will be at Delaware Cemetery in Fredonia, PA. Memorials may be made to City Rescue Mission, in New Castle, PA. Arrangement entrusted to  Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
