Edna Gloria (Groth) Kost, 97, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026 surrounded by family. She was born in Elgin, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Emil and Doretta (Dittmer) Groth. She spent her early years in Illinois with her parents and younger sister, Helen, before the family moved to Queens, New York. There, Edna worked for SP Skinner and later US Steel until her marriage.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard Francis Kost, to whom she was married for 58 years. Together, Edna and Bernard made their homes in Mystic, Connecticut; Audubon, Pennsylvania; and Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania where they raised their family. Edna was a loving mother to her three children: Kathlene (Kost) Crawford and her husband John of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, Laura (Kost) Carlisle and her husband Chris of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and Thomas Kost and his wife Megan Warner of Fairfield, Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind five grandchildren whom she cherished: Matthew Crawford, Kaylin Crawford, Ethan Carlisle, Hannah Crawford and Luke Carlisle. While raising her family, she also worked for many years at Tab Books where she gained lifelong friendships.
Throughout her life, Edna most enjoyed being with others – especially her children, grandchildren, friends, and pets. She enjoyed doing puzzles with family and friends, vacationing at the beach, crafting, gardening, enjoying classic movies, and reading – especially historical fiction, mysteries, and suspense novels. She had a knack for finding "treasures" whether antiquing or at yard sales. She also had a great appreciation for anything chocolate. Edna was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Edna will be forever loved and remembered for her warmth, gentle spirit and devotion to family.
