Dottie Lou (Stupi) Smith "Sarge" Age 71, of Mt. Oliver, passed peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.
She was born in Pittsburgh on August 5, 1952 to the late Louis and Dorothy Stupi.
Dottie attended Mt. Oliver Middle School and Carrick High School.
She met her husband and cherished life partner of 43 years John W. Smith Jr. at Mt. Oliver Middle School. They were married on December 28, 1981.
She worked for Pittsburgh Home Savings Bank/First Commonwealth for 28 years starting as a Bank Teller. She then had several different positions throughout the years and was an underwriter before retiring. While at Pittsburgh home savings she made many lifelong friends. Once retired, she worked at Phillip Murray Elementary as a cafeteria worker. She was then elected as the Mt. Oliver tax collector.
She was all “Pittsburgh”, she loved watching the “Buccos”, Steelers, and Penguins. She loved singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game, taking long distance trips with her husband to many Steelers away games, and dressing in anything “black and gold”. She was an avid traveler. She has been to 37 states with all of her family, making memories at every place, and having the time of her life. She enjoyed nature, loved watching the birds in her backyard, and let’s not forget “Stupi Soup”.
Dottie is survived by her husband John W. Smith Jr., daughter Judith (Russell) Mutschler, granddaughter Marty (Mutschler) Hart (husband Corey), grandson Nicholas Mutschler. Great-grandchildren Maverick and Ava Hart. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Scott (Teresa) Stupi. Her brothers-in-law Ronnie (Pat) Smith and Tommy (Linda) Smith. Her dog, Luka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Dorothy Stupi, brother Terry Stupi, Sister-In-Law Patricia Stupi, nephew Wes Stupi, Father-In-Law John W. Smith Sr., Mother-In-Law Mary Smith, and Sister-In-Law Donna Smith.
Per Dottie’s request, there will be no funeral arrangements. Dottie is graciously donating her body to University of Pittsburgh for medical study.
In lieu of flowers, Dottie would like for you to go to the “state store”, buy a bottle, and have a shot in her memory.
Dottie lived by this saying, “Life’s journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, “Holy cow, what a ride.”
