Donald Miller Obituary

DONALD R. MILLER

Age 88, of Greenfield, passed away on June 5, 2022, at Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital with his son Daniel and grandchildren Jeffrey and Amanda by his side.

Don was the beloved son of the late William C., Sr. and Louise R. (Symons); cherished father of Daniel J. of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and the late Mindy L. Bader (Jeff) of Moon Township.; dear brother of the late William C., Jr. and Richard L.; adoring grandfather of Jeffrey, Amanda and Gabriel Bader; former husband of Elizabeth L. Timmerman and the late Dorothy Ellen Chen; a treasured uncle to Linda Tenney (Bill), the late Patricia Miller and their families; a dear cousin, caring friend, neighbor and co-worker to countless others whose lives he touched.

A proud member of the Class of 1953 at Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill, Don played guard and tackle on the varsity football team, receiving an honorable mention for All-City as a senior. He worked for Allegheny Airlines and then US Air for more than 25 years, supervising a team of agents in the Reservations Department at the Green Tree office of the airline’s hub in Pittsburgh.

Upon retirement from US Air in the early ’90s, he stayed active with part-time jobs, working for five-plus years as a staff driver at Chandler Gilbert Arc — a nonprofit dedicated to providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the East Valley region of Phoenix, Ariz.

While at Arc, Don picked up clients at their homes and drove them to and from the facility for day treatment and activities, building many lasting relationships with both the clients and their families. He also worked as a bellman at the Hilton Hotel in Moon; front desk at the Sheraton San Marcos Resort in Chandler, Ariz.; and as a bellman at Sheraton Hotel in Mesa, Ariz.

Don loved his dogs—most recently Sugar, a Wheaten Terrier, before she went to the Rainbow Bridge in November—and he got great joy from helping others. He also loved Steelers football, Jeopardy!, butterscotch pudding and making personalized greeting cards for special occasions.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from noon until the 2pm memorial service at Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc. 600 Dunster St., Pittsburgh, PA. 15226. 412-343-1506 or Ballfc.com
