Diane Babcock Obituary

In Loving Memory of Diane (Ebert) Babcock
January 16, 1947 – February 4, 2025

Diane Virginia Babcock of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away of natural causes on February 4, 2025, in Carnegie, PA, with her stepdaughters by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, James F. and Thelma (Petzold) Ebert, and by her husband of 33 years, Lewis Clark Babcock, in 2024. She was a 1965 graduate of Moon High School.

Diane left behind a life filled with crafts, collectibles, and a passion for Elvis Presley. Over the years, she turned endless balls of yarn into intricate crochet masterpieces, a pile of sparkly beads into Christmas ornaments, and blank cotton into delicate cross-stitch scenes. Her hands, always adorned with rings, were rarely still, whether making jewelry, painting ceramics, or stitching doilies. From hooked rugs and macramé in the 1970s until her passing, if it could be handcrafted, she had devoted time to creating it.

Diane had a collector’s spirit, particularly when it came to all things Las Vegas. Her home was a personal treasure trove of casino souvenirs, Elvis memorabilia, and trinkets that brought her joy. And, of course, no outfit was ever complete without her signature assortment of rings—her fingers were always adorned with a dazzling variety, from delicate heirlooms to oversized statement pieces. She shared a deep bond with her beloved Shih Tzu, Snowy, who was her faithful companion and possibly the only one who fully appreciated her spontaneous Elvis singalongs.

Diane is survived by her brother, Fred Ebert; her daughter, Dawn Ebert; her stepdaughters, Cynthia (Babcock) Schweitzer and Stephanie (Babcock) Humensky; and five grandchildren.

She will be remembered in a private family gathering. Anyone wishing to honor her memory is encouraged to make a donation to Animal Lifeline Pittsburgh or an animal shelter of their choosing, and to take up a craft, wear a few extra rings, and sing along with an Elvis record.
