DAVID CARL WOODS Beloved of God, on the morning of July 10, 2020, David Carl Woods of Pittsburgh died at the age of 71 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia and ALS.
David was born to James S. Woods, Sr. and Costella Woods on July 8, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was educated in the Pittsburgh School System, attended Cheyney University of Pennsylvania for 2 years, was employed at Duquesne Light Company for 43 years, retiring in 2014, and was well known in the Pittsburgh area as a radio DJ on WAMO and WYJZ for a number of years. He was baptized in Christ at the age of 16 at Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he and his family were members.
David was an avid sportsman, participating in football, track, basketball, and softball during his high school years and beyond, and was inducted into Carrick High School’s first Sports Hall of Fame class.
In October 1986 David was united in marriage to Annette Shipley. Their family has grown in love to encompass four generations
David is preceded in death by his parents, James and Costella Woods, Sr., and his brother Gregory Woods, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter Khadija Woods of Moorestown, NJ; daughter Dawn Fowler (Robert, Sr.) of Pittsburgh, PA; son Michael Shipley, Sr. (Myzshean) of Clermont Florida; brother James S. Woods, Jr. (Linda) of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Michael Woods (Trudy) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Grandchildren include Seseti Mogami; Latasha Fowler; Robert Fowler, Jr.; Antonio Fowler; Jemelia Richardson; Demi Robinson; Andre Grey; Chelsea Patterson, Amber Kostiuk Jones; Tametria Butler. David had a very special and precious relationship with his great grandson, Robert Fowler, III. He leaves behind six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and loving friends too numerous to count.
There will be rejoicing in our hearts for the day they will meet our loved one again.
