David Edwin Banholzer, age 82, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 4, 1943, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Dave brought joy and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him, living a life defined by hard work, faith, and dedication to those he loved. He spent many years in Woodbridge, Virginia, where he built lasting friendships, raised his family, and created countless cherished memories. Golden hearted, Dave’s journey was filled with meaningful relationships and memorable experiences that reflected his warm spirit and kindness.
Dave pursued a career in IT for the Defense Logistic Agency, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, actively participating as a member of the Elks Club for 37 years, and following Pittsburgh sports with great enthusiasm. He especially treasured attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Above all, Dave cherished family and friends. He will be remembered for his warm smile, support, and the countless memories he created with those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tonia (Figliorenzo) Banholzer, whose memory remained dear to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Joyce, with whom he shared many happy years. Together, through love, commitment, and family, Tonia and Mary Ann helped shape two families that became one, creating a lasting legacy of connection, support, and cherished memories. In addition to the love and support of his wife, Mary Ann, and the cherished memory of his first wife, Tonia, he is survived by his children, Brent Banholzer, Shonna Banholzer (Matt Carroll), Molly Krapp (Bill), and Monica McCarthy; his daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Banholzer; his grandchildren, Jamie (Anthony), Brad (Arahcely), Jon David, Ryan (Heather), Tori, Liberty, Meghan, Soaran, and Willow; his great-grandchildren Abigail, Annabelle, Sofia, Adalynn, Priscilla, and Christopher Dean; and his daughter-by-heart, Kristin Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Helen (Lathero) Banholzer; brother Steve Banholzer (Marianne); and son Dean Banholzer. A lifelong lover of animals, he was preceded in death by several beloved pets and leaves behind cherished companions who remained a constant source of happiness and love.
A Funeral Mass shall be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 10:00 am in St. Pius X Church of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 3040 Pioneer Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15226. A brief memorial service and burial will be held by the family on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2:00pm in Calvary Cemetery, 2417 Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
