Cau Phan Obituary

Cau Y. Phan, 69, of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, affectionately known to family, friends, and everyone he met as “Cowboy,” passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026.

Born on February 4, 1957, in Vietnam, Cau built a life defined by loyalty, humor, generosity, and hard work. He carried a deep love for his family, friends, and community throughout his life. Cau dedicated many years to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as a crane operator, where he was respected not only for his years of service, but for the unmatched skill and finesse with which he operated the crane—true Cowboy style.

Cowboy was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving daughter, Ashley Oliver and her husband, Justin, and their children, Hunter, Lane, Gunner, and Eliana; his brother, Quoc Phan and his wife, Toan; his nieces, Linda Gagu and Jaclyn “J” Phan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Known for his larger-than-life personality, Cowboy was a loyal and passionate fan of Pittsburgh sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—sharing good company, drinking IC Light beer, telling funny stories, and making people laugh. His caring heart and generous spirit made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back without hesitation.

Cowboy’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with kindness, the laughter and joy he brought to so many, and the love and generosity he gave so freely to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
