Carol Ruth Larson

Age 80, of Penn Hills, passed away on April 11, 2023. She was daughter to the late Charles and Ruth Larson; loving mother to Michael (Maria) Larson-Edwards and Reneka Edwards; beloved Bibi of Myles Larson-Edwards; and cherished friend of MaryLou Benedetti. Carol was preceded in death by her loving partner of 30 years, George Bentrem, and her extended parents, Francis and Lou Pirozzi.

Carol's highest priorities were her son and grandchild. She was an avid traveler who seized every opportunity to touch every corner of the globe. While her favorite place in the world was South Africa, one of her happiest accomplishments was being able to touch all seven continents. While working at the University of Pittsburgh, Carol dedicated her professional career to international studies. She was passionate about giving back to the community and committed to supporting young women and minorities through many organizations. Carol was a die-hard sports fan, gardener, and wine aficionado. She loved to read, watch the History Channel, and enjoyed time by her pond with her pet fish, dog, and every animal in the wild. She will be missed dearly. 

Friends and family will be received Thursday from 4-8 PM at Ball Funeral Chapel, 600 Dunster St., Pittsburgh, PA 15226. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Fund for the Advancement of Minorities through Education (FAME) in Carol’s honor.
