Carol DeRoy Obituary

Carol Deroy, age 80, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on

Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital after being unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  Carol worked in the restaurant business most of her life starting out as a waitress and bar tender at a young age. With hard work and dedication she became the manager of former Piacquadio’s Restaurant located in Greentree for many years. Carol eventually returned to what she enjoyed doing most- waitressing - until she retired from Pasta Too of Bethel Park. She loved providing the best service possible to her customers and was a true team player for her coworkers.  She showed by example that hard work and reliability is the secret to success of any job. In addition to working, Carol enjoyed eating a nice meal out,  traveling and going to  the casino on occasion.

Most of all Carol truly loved being a grandma and cherished the time she spent with each of her 6 grandchildren.  After the passing of her daughter Sandra Townsend from cancer in 2016, she moved in with her granddaughter Alexandra and their puppy Baily.

Carol was a loving wife for 19 years to the late Robert L. DeRoy.

Beloved daughter of the late Matthew and Cecelia (Schaffer) Steranko of Carnegie and a devoted niece to the late Catherine (Schaffer) Brutt of Carnegie.

Carol was preceded in death by her ex husband Thomas A. Sienerth with whom she had four children.

A cherished mother of John T. Sienerth, David J. Sienerth, Donna J. Vandegrift and the late Sandra L. Townsend; adoring grandmother to Sage and Sierra Sienerth, Jessica and Lillian Sienerth, Alexandra Townsend, and Abigail Vandegrift; dear sister of Marlene, Ronald, Barbra, Donna, Susan, Debbie, and Michael; treasured aunt, cousin and friend to many - especially longtime friends Sandy and Kathy who she loved very much.

No viewing will be held per her wishes.  A celebration of life gathering will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, a gift in her memory may be made to Stand Up To Cancer or  to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
