Calvin John Smitley, “Youngblood”, 74 of Waynesburg PA was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16th in a loving home surrounded by his family. He is now rejoicing with the love of his life, his wife Linda, in Gods kingdom.
Calvin was born in Waynesburg in1950 to the late Arthur and Geraldine Smitley of Mather Pa. He grew up in Mather and attended Jefferson Morgan, where he was given the nickname “Youngblood”. He met his wife Linda while they both were attending Jefferson Morgan High School. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married September 21, 1968. They built a wonderful life together with their 3 daughters, Allison, Caire and Emily, while living in Pennsylvania, Virginia, California, Texas, Ohio and New York. His love for Linda continued long after her passing in 2010. Calvin’s favorite role was as a grandparent/great grandparent. He treasured his time with them and loved being their “Pap/Pap-Pap”, never failing to show off pictures of them, along with stories of his time with them to all his friends. Calvin had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating each and every one like a valuable family member. His dog “ Billy the kid/Bill kid” was always by his side and went everywhere with him. Calvin was very well liked as he never met a stranger and would do anything for anybody. He had an extremely large circle of friends, many going back to junior high school. He was known to many as either “youngblood”, John or Calvin, depending on when/how they became friends.
Calvin was a retired coal miner from several mines within the SW PA area. He joined the Waynesburg Masonic Lodge #153 in 1982, with 41 years of service and was a member of the Waynesburg Moose Lodge since 2011.
