Evelyn June Huff (Dorsette) Sunrise June 7 1939 ~ Sunset February 5 2017, of Pittsburgh. Daughter to the late Leon Dorsette, and Helen (Thomas) Dorsette was born in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. Evelyn, even in her youth, possessed a strong work ethic, and desire to succeed and uplift others. Upon graduating from Fifth Avenue High School, she entered the Registered Nursing program at the former Homestead Hospital, where she excelled. Evelyn became only the 2nd African American to graduate from the program at that time. She went on to score “Nationals” on her state boards. Although not very popular with some men in 1960’s, Evelyn became a champion for women's reproductive health and rights when she became the 1st black supervising RN for Planned Parenthood of Pittsburgh. Evelyn remained steadfast  in the face of adversity, that a woman should be in charge of her own reproductive rights, and health. Evelyn went on to become the Executive Director for the former medical staffing company Nursing Services inc. of Pittsburgh. After successfully navigating at the helm of the company for many years, she decided to utilize her many years of experience in the healthcare industry,  and joined with Highmark BCBS of Pittsburgh as a Hearing Officer until her retirement. Evelyn passed on while sleeping in her bed, in the home she loved, surrounded by the family that loved her. Evelyn is survived by her son Kevin Huff, and Granddaughter Briana J. Huff, Sisters Lenore (Dorsette) Watkins, Sharon Dorsette, and former husband Cephus Huff, and many cousins, nieces and nephews  . Preceded by Parents Leon and Helen Dorsette, sisters Judy Dorsette and Shirley Hackett, brothers Paul Dorsette and Richard Dorsette, and Leon Dorsette III. A private family memorial will be held.
