Sandra Helen Yocca

Sandra Helen Lilja Yocca, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the age of 78.  Sandy, born in Pittsburgh, Pa, and raised in Penn Hills by her parents, Vincent and Madeline Lilja, recently resided in West Mifflin with her dedicated daughters. She was the wife of the late Edward William Yocca, Jr. Beloved mother to the late Michael (Tracey) Yocca, Samuel (Erin) Yocca, late Damian A. “Day” Yocca, Monica (Chuck) Bland, Jeremy E. (Jennifer) Yocca, Benjamin (Tiffany) Yocca, and Jennifer (Vince) Galicic. Sister to Luella “Lue Ann” (late John) Galatic, Valerie (George) Schafer, Vincent (Audrey) Lilja, late Andrew (Joanne “BeBe”) Lilja and late Jacque (Robert) Brown.

Joyfully, she was a grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of two. She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and of her children when they were young, and really enjoyed sharing stories of her grandchildren. She would even laugh out loud as she told these sometimes.

One of her closest friends and caregivers remarked, “Storytellers aren’t just people with good memories. They are deeply interested in people. They really listen and observe, and then store away what they have gathered until just the right time. Once Sandy told a story about an aunt of hers and began by saying, “This may be important…” They ALL are important, treasures from her storehouse, and now her memories belong to us.”

Family and friends may attend a memorial service on Friday, April 19, @ 2pm EST, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1549 Bell Avenue, Braddock, PA 15104. Arrangements by Ball Funeral Chapel, Inc.
