GLORIA HOPE (SAUCERMAN)
Born July 25, 1924, near Midland, South Dakota, died December 25, 2016, at Providence Point in Scott Township, PA, after 71 years of marriage to Albert F. Smith (d. October 26, 2016), the love of her life. She is survived by three children, Gregory (Christine), Bradley (Deborah), and Karen (Kevin); 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Gloria was passionate regarding her Christian faith, the value of education (a certified Elementary Education teacher), the importance of family and the well-being of children. An active member of Christ United Methodist Church of Bethel Park since 1959, she was a children's Sunday school teacher for 44 years. A devoted public servant, she served 13 years on the Upper St. Clair District school board as member, vice-president and president. Gloria was intimately involved with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit as a pioneer and avid advocate in the integral development of the county's Special Education programs. Her public service as an elected official concluded with three terms (12-years) as an Upper St. Clair Township Commissioner. In addition, she voluntarily served on the boards of South Hills Area Council of Governments and Outreach Teen and Family Counseling Services. Upper St. Clair township awarded her the "Outstanding Citizen Award (1967)" and she was included in "Who's Who of American Women 2000-2001: Millennium Edition." Family and friends knew Gloria to be an exceptionally loving, nurturing and devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose guiding hand and unconditional love profoundly shaped and affected more than immediate friends and acquaintances.
